Stop Signs Are For Stopping

I’m in Miami this week for “SuperWeek 2010” which is ESPN’s non-stop coverage of the NFL the week leading up to the SuperBowl.  We can’t use the words SuperBowl in any of our coverage because we don’t have rights so we have to call it “The Big Game” or “SuperWeek” or “That game on Sunday”.  Crazy legal stuff.

Miami has been an interesting place full of interesting people.  I went for a 10 mile run along this canal leading to the Atlantic Ocean and had a lot of time for reflection and people watching.  What I realized was, among other things, Miami is not for me.  It seemed everyone drove around like the world owed them something, eagerly disobeying traffic laws and thrusting their expensive luxury cars around.  Embarrisingly, I’m stuck with an economy rental which makes me stick out like a sore thumb in between the lexus, porche and bmws that scatter the streets of South Beach.

Incidentally, there’s a lot more in South Beach than wealthy cars.  There are cups of coffee for $5, the drag queen bar that nearly trapped me into eating lunch and more plastic surgeries than Hollywood!  So, with all of these negatives, I’m still left with an overall neutral attitude toward this sunny paradise.  Why is this?  Because my body hasn’t seen the sun for six months and boy does it feel wonderful!
